Assistant Professor, Jazz Vocals
Sopio Murusidze is a jazz vocalist, composer, and educator from Tbilisi, Georgia. She earned her bachelor’s degree in jazz and contemporary music in New York City at The New School. During her time in New York, she studied with prominent faculty members and sang in diverse ensembles led by legendary jazz musicians such as Reggie Workman and Buster Williams.
Sopio has performed with her jazz quartet and duo projects at various music venues and festivals around NYC such as Make Music New York, Citi Summer Series, Rockwood Music Hall, Pianos, Society Café, etc. In the fall of 2019, Sopio joined the Young New Yorkers’ Chorus, performing a vast variety of music, from works of classical greats to those of prominent living composers. In November 2019, Sopio was cast in the musical “12th Night” staged by Clocktower Players at Irvington Theatre. She performed in four shows including the regional premiere.
At the start of the pandemic, Sopio moved back home to Tbilisi, Georgia. She was offered a position as a faculty member at the Tbilisi State Conservatoire. Currently, she is an assistant-professor teaching jazz vocals to students pursuing their degrees.
